0.5Pts EW Doubles: The Corsican, Convey/Latharnach @8.25/15.00

The Corsican, twice a winner at Goodwood, was a fast-finishing 4th in Royal Ascot’s Prince Of Wales’s Stakes – one of the hottest Group Ones in world racing. This Group Three is a drop in class and, with a clear run, the 2/1 available starts to represent some value with so many of today’s challengers unproven at that level. His performance that day didn’t suggest the step up to 12f would be an issue and, with ground to suit, I’m not sure he needs to improve to win.

Hill Star has won some big races in his career but consistently comes up short. Dubday represents some value after his narrow defeat by Gospel Choir was yesterday boosted by Big Orange. Though as a 5yo he’s more exposed and the younger Conneticut looks a more likely improver. I’m sticking with the official ratings with this one; they have him 5lbs behind the selection.

In the Bonhams Thoroughbred Stakes, the once-raced, unbeaten Convey has received a 4/1 quote. Entries in the Group One Juddmonte International and Irish Champion Stakes suggest this horse is held in high regard and he may be worth a gamble. The main threat is Latharnach, whose form line with Gleneagles and earlier beating of Newmarket winner Tupi looks rock solid.

Instead of picking between them, I fancy them both in with The Corsican in each way doubles.
