1pt ante-post win Angel's Hideaway @6/1, Lowther Stakes, York

York’s big Ebor meeting kicks off on Wednesday, which is a firm favourite of ours having provided plenty of winners down the years, including our biggest ever in 100/1 shot Arabian Queen back in 2015.

Final declarations for Wednesday have been made today (Monday 20th) with Cracksman the biggest withdrawal for the feature Juddmonte International Stakes.

We’ll keep our powder dry for that race until tomorrow, but there may be some wisdom in siding with Cracksman’s stablemate ANGEL’S HIDEAWAY before final declarations for the Group Two Lowther Stakes are made tomorrow (Tuesday 21st).

I simply can’t believe she’ll be allowed to go off 6/1 on the day and she’s a certain runner who I really like, while Aidan O’Brien’s yard is under a cloud at the moment and I can’t see all six of his entries taking their chance, which would tighten the market.

We backed Angel’s Hideaway at Royal Ascot where she ran well to finish fourth in the Albany Stakes, but to my eye progressed in her next two runs when finishing a long way clear of the third-placed horse when second behind subsequent Group One scorer Pretty Pollyanna at Newmarket, before bolting up next time out on King George day at Ascot.

That was a Group Three and this is a Group Two, meaning she avoids any penalty and arrives in top form.

She appears to have progressed past her Royal Ascot conquerors La Pelosa and Main Edition, who was back to winning ways last time out, so there’s a very strong progressive look to her profile.

I’m relaxed about the ground too, as she’s by Dark Angel whose progeny are generally versatile, while there isn’t much rain forecast anyway.

Well worth a bet.
