1pt each-way Minella Reception @14/1, Ascot 15:35

Minella Reception looked to be ahead of his mark on his seasonal reappearance at Haydock when falling three out. He had been jumping very smoothly for Nigel Twiston-Davies and Ryan Hatch, and look destined to be in the mix at the finishing line when going the best before he came down. He has the profile of a horse that should improve with that being only his second start over fences having won on his debut in August 2014. The trainer has clearly been patient with him and that was his first run for over a year.

Ryan Hatch was in the saddle at Haydock with a 3lb claim, and now Jamie Bargary takes the ride with a further 2lb coming off his mark of 130 under his 5lb claim. The heavy ground didn’t seem to bother him either at Haydock, and he also holds a victory on soft as a hurdler. He looks versatile having won his opening chase race on good and the trip should be fine.

In a race which is quite tight in the betting, the 14/1 about this morning is tempting, particularly in the context of WilliamHill pricing this horse at 8’s. There is obviously some disagreement between the bookmakers as to this horses chances and it’s worth trying to take advantage of any potential mispricing. Those odds could shorten with Reve De Sivola due to be engaged at Haydock meaning a Rule 4 is set to be applied.
