Despite the drying ground, Besharah should open her Group One account at Newmarket tomorrow and looks a solid bet at 11/4. She went down a short-head to the unbeaten and re-opposing Illumitate over course and distance in July, but given her clear progression since – getting the better of Lumiere on her way to a Group-race double – we’re expecting her to confirm her superiority.
However, on just her second start, Sunflower catches the eye at a big price for Andrew Balding. She could hardly be less exposed after her solitary maiden success and this is lofty company for such an inexperienced horse. It’s a confident move from connections and suggests a lot of faith in her ability. With the dry forecast there’s no real reason to believe the eight declared will be reduced, so the current three-place each-way terms and the 33/1 offered by StanJames looks good.
