1m6f Queen’s Vase (Group 2) (Class 1) (3yo)

It doesn’t look a standout renewal of the Queen’s Vase, which also makes it a little tricky to pick one as I think you are betting more for potential improvement at this extended trip than previous formlines.

Eldar Eldarov probably looks like the most interesting contender as this colt puts his unbeaten record on-the-line. Both of his starts have been in maiden or novice events and whilst he has won with a bit to spare, both races have been on a slower surface and he now looks overbet at his price.

The eyecatching late finish put in by Nahanni just 11 days ago in the Derby means he has also got to be massively respected, he finished well after breaking from the stalls slowly and is entitled to enjoy this step up in trip. However this race may come too soon for him and is almost certainly an afterthought.

So I think it’s worth getting on ANCHORAGE for Aiden O’Brien for his first start beyond 1m 2f. His trainer has won half of the last 10 runnings of this event and it could be notable that he only sends one to this race.

Whilst Anchorage has had the most runs of any horse in the race, he has probably got the best form with some of his two-year-old middle distance form looking pretty decent. Of course, he needs to step-up to win this, but the extra half a mile in trip could be enough of a reason to take his form to a new level.

Anchorage finished a staying on fifth on his seasonal reappearance where he looked like he needed the run as so many of the Coolmore, Galileos often do. At 13/2, he seems a nice price to take on his peers noting he hold a St. Leger entry for later in the year.
