Flat racing is back at Newbury with the Greenham Stakes – which so often produces Group One winners – the feature race on Saturday’s card.
Favourite Expert Eye flopped at Newmarket when odds-on at the back end of last season and connections aren’t giving out positive noises about his chances here.
It looks a wide open race as every runner is making their seasonal debut, and CONNECT could be the type to cause a surprise.
A winner in Listed company over a mile last season, he is stepping back in trip to seven furlongs but doesn’t lack speed.
That win came courtesy of holding him up despite him usually blazing a trail in front, and though he found Masar too good as a two-year-old at Sandown, all his other races last season promised plenty.
I fancy he can get to the front and be hard to peg back in this, which can be won through stamina.
