1pt win Gold Wand @9/1, 14:35 Sunday, Curragh

1m2f Moyglare ”Jewels” Blandford Stakes (Group 2) (Fillies & Mares)

A fantastic looking renewal of this fillies and mares race. Magic Wand is set to go off favourite and has been well-supported. She will set a strong gallop, but there are plenty of three-year-olds that could improve opposing her and she looks vulnerable conceding weight.

One Voice has the best form in this race with her second in the Group 1 Nassau Stakes and third in the Group 1 Yorkshire Oaks. I would be more tempted by her of the runners at the top of the market and she is ultra consistent.

But at the prices, I think it’s worth taking a chance on GOLD WAND progressing into a top class middle distance filly. She ran into a decent sort on her impressive debut last season and has generally got a very progressive looking profile based on her racing post ratings.

The only blip in her career, thus far, was a down-the-field finish in the Epsom Oaks over a track that probably didn’t suit. But she bounced back to run Franconia very close in a Listed race at York looking green in the process.

Gold Wand put in a much more seasoned display in a Listed 1m 4f race back at York in August comfortably beating a decent field by a couple of lengths. The second has since franked the form going close in a Group 2 event.

The step-up to Group 1 is a big one but Gold Wand could still be on the upgrade as she figures out her racing. She’s entered in the Group 1 Fillies & Mares race on Champions Day and having run in the main fillies Classic of the season her yard clearly think highly of her. After all Gold Wand’s sire Golden Horn got better with age and with running.

Gold Wand is fancied to take another huge step forward over conditions that are expected to suit with a strong gallop over a stiff 1m 2f trip posing no problem to her.
