I’m backing LUCKY LILAC in the early hours of Sunday morning over in Hong Kong. Trained in Japan and sired by 2012 and 2013 Arc-second Orfevre, she looked a chip off the old block when landing a Group One in her homeland last time out, and has drawn stall 1 with Belgian ace Christophe Soumillon taking the ride – as he did Orfevre in those Arcs. With the favourite drawn 14 and propping up the market at prohibitive odds, 10/1 looks too tempting to ignore. Epsom Derby winner Anthony Van Dyck also runs, and he’s clearly got a bit chance too after looking unlucky in the Breeders’ Cup.
