1pt win Mac Swiney @20/1, Laws Of Indices @25/1, 16:10 Curragh, Sunday

7f  Goffs Vincent O’Brien National Stakes (Group 1)  (2yo)

This is an absolute corker of a race with so many horses holding strong claims. Lucky Vega looks really good and is the right favourite but he’s got serious opposition here. He was beaten by a 66/1 shot LAWS OF INDICES before emphatically reversing the form last time out, but Laws Of Indices completely missed the break and was the eye catcher passing horses and staying on late for a never-nearer fourth. He is 25/1 for this and has certainly shown enough to be shorter than that, so I can’t let him go unbacked and the step up in trip should suit him. I don’t like betting each-way on a horse that might miss the kick as that’ll be key to his chance, so I’ll have two in the race instead. The market will tell us whether Battleground is the real deal but I think he will be better over a mile and might find a few too quick in this. Master Of The Seas looks all class but is priced fairly given the opposition, including MAC SWINEY, whose form took a massive boost on Saturday as Cadillac bolted up in a Group Two. By New Approach, this horse looks a strong stayer and a potential Derby horse, and he’s got to be better than a dismissive 20/1 chance.
