Freddie Head is a strong handler of fillies and he saddles Pearly Steph in what looks like a wide open Grp 3 race. She has been racing well in Grp 3 / Listed contests in France this season and is completely unexposed over 7f having won over 8f in listed company. She finished a length behind Maimara in France at Chantilly in June in a Grp 3 who has since gone on to win her next two races impressively at Listed and Group 3 level respectively – she took a keen hold that day and may have slightly too much speed for the 1m – 1m1f trip.
She is worth a try at 7f with the sire form of Oasis Dream working out well in the sprinting category, and Head’s comments suggest she will appreciate the drop. He also considers that the bigger Doncaster track will suit her down to the ground so at 18/1 she could be overpriced with a number of these lacking the requisite pattern company form. She will be fresh after her 73 day break and could be another improving three year old filly to rival the market principals.
