SAM SPINNER has to be the bet in Ascot’s 2.25 Long Walk Hurdle after winning the race cosily last year.
He’s a generous 6/1 despite boasting the best form in the race, but does have to improve markedly on both his seasonal reappearance – where he was brought down when beaten at the second last behind Unowhatimeanharry – and a tame run in the Aintree Stayers Hurdle.
However, he opened last season with a half-length second off a mark of 136 and progressed to record an official rating of 164 when winning this race last year, so to say he’s capable of improving for the run would be an understatement!
Soft ground is no issue and this doesn’t look like a deep race.
