1pt win Shahryar @3/1, 15:40 Royal Ascot, Wednesday

1m2f  (1m1f212y) Prince Of Wales’s Stakes (Group 1) (British Champions Series)  (Class 1) (4yo+)

Sir Michael Stoute won the Derby and I suspect his Bay Bridge wouldn’t be so short here if he hadn’t, as his best form is a 5l Group Three success over a horse who too hasn’t won above the same level. Ratings give him a clear chance in this Group One but there’s absolutely no counter argument to Japan’s SHAHRYAR having the best form. Japan have been dominant in the International stage despite rarely sending raiders to Britain because of the poor prize money. He’s a Japanese Derby and Dubai Sheema Classic winner (both Group Ones) and will have no problems dropping to 10f as the Sheema Classic better suits 10f horses as Meydan is a speed track, and he broke the 9f track record at Hanshin last season. At odds north of 3/1 he appeals as a sound value play. Of the rest Grand Glory has been in good form and her mares’ allowance puts her in the mix, whilst an in-form Lord North is always a danger at a track he enjoys.
