I thought SHAMAN ran better than his finishing position suggested when fifth behind Circus Maximus at Royal Ascot. He didn’t have the best draw and, for all he wouldn’t have won, I’m not sure he was given a very good ride. Freshened up and now against a far weaker Group One field at Deauville, he is attractively priced at 11/2 to make amends. Watch Me was a surprise winner at Royal Ascot but I’m not at all enamoured by the form, and Romanised is the only other contender who looks a big threat. He’s surely no bet at around 9/4 though.
