1pt win Wind Chimes @10/1, 15:15 Longchamp, Saturday

It was bottomless at Haydock on Saturday but quick ground remains over the channel at Longchamp where an excellent bunch contest the Prix du Moulin.

Sussex Stakes 1-2 Lightening Spear and Expert Eye head the betting, which sounds about right as that’s probably the best form in this race.

Lightening Spear has got a smelly draw in stall 10 which spoils his chances, whilst I’m still dubious Expert Eye truly stays a mile.

It’s two from the home team that make most appeal at the prices, and both have been put up by these pages already this season.

Wootton has been frustrating to follow and is clearly more talented than his recent results suggest, so he’ll be a tough one to stomach if winning unbacked.

However, I was very disappointed by his last run when dropped to an extended six furlongs at Deauville, where he was outpaced and made up no ground at the end.

The absence of soft ground, which could act as a catalyst for his return to form, lessens the appeal despite some very juicy odds of 18/1.

The one I am very keen on is Andre Fabre’s WIND CHIMES who bounced back to form with a facile success at Deauville last time out.

She really should have won the French 1,000 Guineas but was drawn in the car park and couldn’t get up.

She’s got a killer turn of foot and wants to be held up, so she’s always going to be in and out of the winners enclosure, and if we can catch her on a good day there’s a Group One in her.

Andre Fabre has suggested this is the final run of her season so you’d suspect she will be fully wound up for a big run.

10/1 looks well worth a go.
