Godolphin’s WINNING STORY looks a decent price to chance in the staying race on Chester’s Friday card after breaking the track record on the all-weather at Lingfield.
Very unexposed on turf, he has race fitness and recent form in the book so might be overpriced.
Track records at Lingfield hardly favour well versus placed efforts in the Epsom Derby, but the form of last year’s Classic has been fairly dire since, while Aidan O’Brien’s US Army Ranger has been doing it no favours himself after an excellent second in the race last year.
He has something to prove so isn’t too tough to take on, whilst Sir Michael Stoute’s well-bred Midterm has also disappointed since being sent off favourite for last year’s Dante Stakes at York.
9/1 looks good for the selection.
