Aintree Friday tips: Monte Cristo (8/1 ew), Master Debonair (16/1), Master Tommytucker (9/1), Midnight River (11/1 ew)

2m4f  Pertemps Network Handicap Hurdle (Grade 3) (GBB Race)  (Class 1) (4yo+)

MONTE CRISTO has to go up after looking booked for a place in the Coral Cup and being hampered badly by a faller at the last. He possibly could have been second or third in the race despite not looking like he loved Cheltenham in what was a falsely run race. Off the same mark I’d expect him to hit the frame again and 8/1 is a nice price. I can’t resist a win bet on MASTER DEBONAIR for his new trainer Harry Fry on his first run after a wind op. He’s been stopping very quickly in his races and has had wind issues before, so if they can revive his fortunes he looks well handicapped off 142 after being cut 7lb this season. His novice hurdle and bumper form says he’s better than that.

This looks pretty weak for a Grade 1 and Politologue is more than a fair price at 3/1 with his record here. I wouldn’t put you off taking 3/1 but I just can’t resist MASTER TOMMYTUCKER at 9/1 on a flat track with good ground. I think he’ll love it and we’ll hopefully get to see the Rolls Royce engine he possesses in top gear. He comes with a warning as he’s a clumsy bastard, but he’s going to be a hard horse to pass if getting into a rhythm.

1pt win Master Tommytucker @9/1, 15:25 Aintree, Friday

2m½f  (2m103y) Betway Top Novices’ Hurdle (Grade 1) (GBB Race)  (Class 1) (4yo+)

There’s no denying Bravemansgame looks the class horse in the race but he is too short given his Cheltenham exploits and unproven stamina. I think the selection here has to be MIDNIGHT RIVER for the Skelton yard. He gave weight and a beating to Gallyhill last time and has plenty of experience over hurdles already, showing progressive form. He should thrive for the step up in trip and has all the battling qualities you want in this type of race where there’ll be no hiding places. I prefer him to the more unexposed Gallyhill because the form book says he’s better and he simply looks like he tries harder. They could all be playing for places, though.

1pt each-way Midnight River @11/1, 16:40 Aintree, Friday (1-4, 1/5)
