Breeders' Cup day one selections: Decorated Invader (5/1), Crystalle (12/1)

1m  Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf presented by Coolmore (Grade 1) (2yo Colts, Geldings & Ridglings) (Turf)  (2yo)

This looks an ideal betting market as hot favourite Arizona is drawn out in stall 12 and trying a mile for the first time. He’s a very skinny price for those reasons and I’m going to take him on with the home team’s main hope DECORATED INVADER at 5/1. He won a Group One in Canada with relative ease last time out and he’s been given a good draw in stall four, so should run his race.

1pt win Decorated Invader @5/1, 20:52 Santa Anita, Friday

1m  Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf (Grade 1) (2yo Fillies) (Turf)  (2yo)

Albigna won her Group One on heavy ground going right handed, so firm ground round the tight left-handed Santa Anita couldn’t be more different. Throw in a below average draw of stall nine and she is very opposable as a 4/1 favourite. There will be a mad rush for track position and a strong pace is guaranteed, so the fast finishing CRYSTALLE looks like a big player if getting a clear run. She’s a sluggish starter but has serious gears and should be flashing home from the back. It’s a bit of a lottery running that way in a 14-runner Group One, but 12/1 is plenty big to have a go. Sweet Melania was the next on the shortlist but I reckon she needs to front run to be seen at her best, and she won’t be doing that easily from a wide draw.

1pt win Crystalle @12/1, 22:12 Santa Anita, Friday
