Irish Derby day selections: Georgeville (5/1), Romero (12/1)

1m2f  Dubai Duty Free Full Of Surprises International Stakes (Group 3)  (3yo+)

Royal Ascot winner Addeybb is out again but will not get his favoured soft ground, and I wouldn’t be surprised if he gets withdrawn if it gets too quick. Blenheim Palace should relish these conditions if he’s anything like his Group One winning siblings Churchill and Clemmie. He has form in the book with Group One horses so could be a steal at 15/2, but I prefer the profile of GEORGEVILLE for Dermot Weld. Unbeaten in his last two races, winning with ease, he steps up to Group company for the first time and looks well up to the job. 5/1 is a bad price if we’re betting strictly on form, but we’re betting on potential here and I can’t see a top-class performer in this race, so the bar isn’t that high.

1pt win Georgeville @5/1, 15:30 Curragh, Saturday

6f  GAIN Railway Stakes (Group 2)  (2yo)

This looks a hot little race with clear chances for the unbeaten duo Siskin and Monarch Of Egypt. However, English raider ROMERO looked really good on debut and connections must like him a lot to send him over to Ireland for a Group Two. His turn of foot at Doncaster was awesome and he looks an out and out sprinter. 12/1 is well worth taking.

1pt win Romero @12/1, 16:40 Curragh, Saturday
