3m2f (3m1f188y) (Grand National) William Hill Half A Mill Becher Handicap Chase (Premier Handicap) (GBB Race) (Class 1) (6yo+)
A mudlark with proven stamina is the right type for the Becher on Saturday and right down at the bottom of the weights is Welsh National winner, VAL DANCER for Mel Rowley. Val Dancer had a nice seasonal opener at Carlisle first time up running when for a long way before tiring into last. His run was much better than the bare result suggests and clearly needed that outing to get him race fit.
It’s helped him to drop a few pounds and he only races 4lbs higher than his winning mark last December in the Welsh Grand National. Van Dancer is a prominent racer and a sound jumper which should stand him in good stead here and the market looks to have slightly overpriced him. There are some good horses in here such as Mr Vango whilst Bioluminescence would be very dangerous if Gavin Cromwell’s horses can come back to form so an each-way bet is the way to go here on Val Dancer.
1pt each-way Val Dancer 12/1, 14:40 Aintree, Saturday (1-4 places, 1/5 odds)
