Group 1 Grand Prix De Saint Cloud 1m 4f
Despite the small five-runner field, this looks like a cracking addition of the Group 1 Grand Prix De Saint Cloud. Goliath is a Group 1 winner already and looked dominant in a Group 3 victory at Longchamp last time out. He’s not got any chinks in his armour although he does generally like a decent gallop to aim at and could be caught cold if it turns into a sprint.
Calandagan is probably the right favourite but he has shown some mental fragility with fours seconds in his last four starts, which means he’s probably worth taking on.
Both have to give 4lbs in weight away to top class filly AVENTURE, who has put away Group 3 and Group 2 opposition in commanding style already this season over 1m 2f. I think Aventure is arguably better over 1m 4f, but the attribute that may give her an edge on her market rivals may just be her turn-of-foot as she’s an incredibly fast filly that could get the better of her rivals by using her speed in a potentially tactical affair.
Aventure hasn’t won a Group 1 yet, but that feels like it’s only a matter of time having finished second in both the Prix Vermeille and the Arc as a three-year-old.
