1pt win Chindit @33/1, 14:50 Deauville, Sunday

1m  Prix du Haras de Fresnay-le-Buffard Jacques le Marois (Group 1) (3yo+ No Geldings) (Straight) (Turf)  (3yo+)

Palace Pier will take all the beating here if at his best, but he’s yet to meet the three-year-olds this season and that gives him something to prove as the older milers don’t look up to much – the Classic generation have been superior to their elders in the mile division so far, landing both the Sussex and Falmouth Stakes. We know now that Poetic Flare is a much better horse on fast ground and he’ll take all the beating if it stays dry, so 3/1 should arguably be shorter and don’t let me put you off. However, I remain convinced that CHINDIT is a Group One horse and at 33/1 I can’t ignore his chance on ground that shouldn’t be too slow. All his best form is on faster ground so any cut is a little concern, but he’s had excuses for his three career defeats to date. He doesn’t like Newmarket and I’ll forgive any horse an underwhelming run round Ascot’s round mile. He didn’t get the clearest run against Poetic Flare at Royal Ascot and I’m convinced he’ll be a better horse over a straight mile where he can build some momentum. He’s overpriced.
