1pt win Kurakka @17/2, 13:20 Goodwood, Wednesday

1m4f (1m3f218y) Coral Pipped At The Post Winners Handicap (GBBPlus Race) (Class 2) (3yo 0-105)

Not a lot of depth to this handicap and the favourite, Sing Us A Song, is a very skinny price considering what he has accomplished in his career to date. He might be the best handicapped in the race but he got upset before his last run at Ascot and ultimately blew his race at the start by missing the break. He can be forgiven that run, but there is enough of a question mark about his temperment now to put me off at odds of less than 2/1.

Omni Man looks a very solid alternative who should go well for Joseph O’Brien but he faces a 3lb hike having finished ahead of Sing Us A Song at Ascot. Sudu is an interesting runner but an 11lbs rise as a result of his belared first win of his career against poor opposition might be a bit harsh. Consequently, one that could still be improving and will absolutely relish this trip and ground is KURAKKA for Alan King and Rossa Ryan.

Kurakka has an interesting American bred profile, but he has looked a hugely straightforward horse on all five career starts not finishing out of the first four. He finally got off the mark when stepped up in trip over 10f at Chelmsford when powering home and he looked even better at Haydock on his first attempt over 1m 4f when he seemed to really enjoy this trip. The form of those successes might be easy to pick holes in but I think his last run at Newmarket was potentially against some very decent sorts.

He stepped back in distance to 10f which probably wasn’t in his favour last time out but still posted a career best RPR so everything looks to be in his favour here. At the prices, I think he’s worth a shot.
