The mile and shorter Breeders’ Cup races always used to favour the home team as they’re run at such a different tempo to Europe, and with the European team looking a little underwhelming this year I’d wager they’re best ignored. The European milers all took turns winning the top races with no real standout, and the fact Notable Speech – winless domestically since July 2024 – is favourite tells you all you need to know. An RPR in the low 120s will get the job done most years and that brings plenty into consideration. RHETORICAL stands out as the most progressive after winning a deep Grade 1 last time out from some good European horses like Diego Velazquez, Jonquil and Woodshauna. He’s won his last four on the bounce and his last time out RPR of 121 puts him firmly in the reckoning. Stall 11 is challenging but he’s usually quickly away and he can win if good enough.
