TASLEET has to be backed at 9/2 to record back-to-back successes in the Clipper Logistics Stakes at York on Wednesday.
He bolted up on soft ground last year to earn a reputation for being a mudlark, but an excellent second on lightning fast ground at Royal Ascot rubbished that theory and he boasts excellent Group One form.
He was ahead of multiple Group One winner Limato and subsequent Champion Sprint Stakes winner Librisa Breeze at Royal Ascot, and placed second in both the Haydock Sprint Cup and that Champion Sprint Stakes last season.
Harry Angel, the odds-on favourite for this, won both the Sprint Cup and the July Cup last season but was behind Tasleet on Champions Day and must concede a Group One penalty of 5lb in this lower grade.
That has him right up against it and I’m firmly with Tasleet on value grounds.
Brando is very good on his day and has the significant benefit of a winning prep run, but he’s never won at York and was beaten three times to one by the selection last season, so it’s hard to side with him at the other’s expense.

Later on the card in the fillies’ Group Three over a mile and a quarter, LUBINKA looks a nice bet at 6/1.
A 150/1 outsider when she was an excellent sixth in the Group One Fillies’ Mile at Newmarket last season – form which has been franked in the 1000 Guineas – she was only beaten by horses that have gone on to prove themselves very useful at three, such as Nell Gwyn Stakes winner Soliloquy and Dark Rose Angel, whose form has received several big boosts since, so she must be pretty good.
An easy-as-you-like warm-up victory on the all-weather earlier this year suggested she’d trained on and she appears to hold strong claims for this Group Three.
If she was outpaced in the Fillies’ Mile at Newmarket last season she might be seen to better effect over further, and her breeding is very much in the middle distance category.
