1pt win Air De Valse @12/1, 16:25 Sunday, Longchamp

5f Prix de l’Abbaye de Longchamp Longines (Group 1)

Glass Slippers ran out a surprise 20/1 winner of the Abbaye last year in similar conditions from stall 3. That wasn’t the strongest looking renewal with Battash bombing out and the form of that race hasn’t looked great this year either.

Glass Slippers does come into this race off the back of a very good winning performance in the Group 1 Flying Five Stakes over at the Curragh three weeks ago, but 9/4 looks short enough for a race that often throws up a few surprises.

I’d probably pick out Make A Challenge from the Flying Five Stakes given he was drawn miles away from the pace and made up a lot of lengths on Glass Slippers and Keep Busy on ground faster than ideal. Make A Challenge has unfortunately been drawn widest again, but can go close if getting a better run.

AIR DE VALSE put in a commanding performance and her best career run to date over course and distance in the Group 3 Prix du Petit Couvert a few weeks ago. She ran the fastest ever time in the race and came close to breaking the course record.

She has proven herself over softer conditions and has seemed to get better and better with racing this season.

Air De Valse does need to step up again, but she beat the Prix Jean Prat fourth Wooded pretty comfortably on her last start and ran well behind pattern-level performer Breathtaking Look the time before.

Air De Valse’s odds of 12/1 look big for a filly that deserves to have her first start in a Group 1 and she’s worth a punt.
