1pt win American Affair @9/1, 1pt win Jm Jungle @10/1, 15:30 Haydock, Saturday

5f William Hill Temple Stakes (Group 2) (Class 1) (3yo+)

Night Raider showed improved form in the Palace House Stakes at Newmarket and his gelding operation seems to have eeked out a good bit more improvement. He will no doubt set the pace again here, but the going conditions may not been in his favour this time and it’s hard to put back-to-back wins in during these competitive Group sprints.

AMERICAN AFFAIR showed huge progress for Jim Goldie last season culminating in a Group 1 success at Royal Ascot. He clearly badly needed the run on his seasonal reappearance ten days ago over an inadequate 6f trip and should have come on a great deal for that run. This race should suit him much better and I’d expect a much improved performance from this Group 1 winning sprinter with the slightly softer conditions no issue to him.

The other sprinter in here that should come on a great deal from his first run and won’t mind the conditions is JM JUNGLE for John Quinn who is a dab-hand with older sprinters. Jm Jungle ran a very respectable race behind Night Raider finishing fourth and doing his best work late on. He has a decent draw in stall 9 and has alread proven on multiple occasions that he is up to this level. The two improving “handicappers” in this field are Getreadytorumble and Jakajaro who have to be feared given the form shown early this season.
