1m4f Darley Yorkshire Oaks (Group 1) (British Champions Series) (Fillies & Mares) (Class 1) (3yo+)
A fascinating renewal for the Darley Yorkshire Oaks and I think the market has got this wrong with Alpinista currently a 2/1 favourite. She has been very consistent this season winning five on the bounce over in Germany and France, but I do wonder whether she truly possesses top top class ability.
All of the three-year-olds need to find something on the form they have achieved to date, and of the older horses, Lilac Road could be the most interesting on her first try at 1m 4f having run down Nashwa in the Nassau Stakes.
But I’m a huge fan of LA PETITE COCO for Paddy Twomey. She ran a huge comeback race in the Group 1 Pretty Polly Stakes at The Curragh on her first start of the season over 1m 2f. She could have been forgiven for lacking race fitness and giving up on the run-in when challenged from all sides, but she kept pulling out more and more to claim her first Group 1 victory with a bit in hand.
La Petite Coco finished last season on a high beating multiple Group 1 winner Love, and her best run was arguably over 1m 4f when she demolished Group 3 opposition. There is every chance La Petite Coco could be a significant force to be reckoned with over middle-distances in the latter part of the season and given the recent rain at York, should have conditions in her favour over a trip that should see her operate at her best.
1.5pts win La Petite Coco @4/1, 15:35 York, Thursday
