With the going set to be extremely heavy on Sunday at Longchamp, the usual short-trip in the Abbaye may require a bit more stamina than normal.
Suesa is a worthy favourite and has looked a top-class sprinter this season. The ground should be in her favour, but she has been drawn out wide and that can often prove to be a problem in the Abbaye where it’s normally better to be drawn low particularly in soft ground.
Suesa remains the one to beat, but it’s a race that can often throw up a surprise or two and with the inclement weather making it extremely testing, I am looking at those drawn low.
A CASE OF YOU looks like he is an improving sprinter and put in arguably his best performance of his career on his first attempt over 5f in the Group 1 Flying Five Stakes at The Curragh last month.
A Case Of You finished closely behind the reopposing Romantic Proposal, who certainly could have a big say in this as well. But the ground and draw have probably gone against Romantic Proposal and in favour of our selection as he should have no problem on the heavy going whilst Romantic Proposal has been drawn in 14.
Behind both of the Irish sprinters was Glass Slippers in the Flying Five on just her second start of the season. She has been primed for this race and looks like the most solid option of the rest. But the bookies are keeping Glass Slippers under tight control given that she has finished 1st and 2nd in the last two runnings of the Abbaye and I’d expect her to go very close again.
However, A Case Of You is an improving three-year-old sprinter and can progress to win this from a plumb draw in stall 5. He shouldn’t be three times Glass Slipper’s price having beaten her last time out with a less than ideal trip.
