5f British Stallion Studs EBF Westow Stakes (Listed Race) (Class 1) (3yo)
Aidan O’Brien saddles an interesting colt in the shape of King Of Bavaria here, but the son of No Nay Never looks a bit short in the market and is priced up on potential rather than form in the book.
The horse who does have the best form and looks a potential pattern-level sprinter is BOONIE, for Kevin Ryan, who knows a thing or two about training champion sprinters.
Boonie is 2/6 over sprint distances and his juvenile campaign included a close third in the Windsor Castle Stakes at Royal Ascot as well as a third behind Armor in the Group 3 Molecombe last year.
Boonie’s first start of his three-year-old campaign was a career-best travelling strongly before quickening away impressively to claim a Conditions race at Nottingham. The second has since come out and won to frank the form.
Boonie is drawn in stall 6, and should get a nice toe into the race from the front-running Last Crusader, who also sparked an interest dropping bag in trip from 6f to 5f, drawn over in stall four.
Boonie looks like he has the capability to be a top-level sprinter and there is more progress expected by this son of Brazen Beau, who was the best sprinter in Australia in his day.
1pt win Boonie @4/1, 16:10 York, Thursday
