6f BetVictor Carnarvon Stakes (Listed Race) (Class 1) (3yo)
Noble Style is a very warm order on his return to six furlongs. His stamina didn’t quite last home over the mile on soft ground at Newmarket two weeks ago in the 2000 Guineas, and it would be no surprise if he proves too good for his opposition here with the Commonwealth Cup an obvious target for him later in the campaign.
But he isn’t the only one with a Commonwealth Cup entry in this Listed contest and there is plenty to like about the progress of SHAQUILLE for the small yard of Julie Camacho. Shaquille is 4 from 5 in his career thus far with his only defeat coming over 7f in the Acomb when finishing dead last to Chaldean. He pulled very hard on that occasion and does have a tendency to expend some energy at the start of his races, but Shaquille has looked more and more commanding with each sprint start, he looks to be settling much better and the manner of his success in his first handicap at Newmarket last time out was pretty eye-catching.
Shaquille has got fast tactical speed at the start and has some stamina which allows him to see out his races strongly so he might just get the better of Noble Style in this small-field contest with the recent sprinting experience to call upon.
1pt win Shaquille @9/2, 13:50 Newbury, Saturday
