1m Breeders’ Cup Mile (Grade 1) (3yo+)

Circus Maximus is seeking to take the Breeders’ Cup Mile for Coolmore and is certainly the leading European raider on his best form. But he’s more of a grinding-type and you can see him possibly struggling to handle the pace of this race on what is a tight turning course.

He looks a weak favourite at 3/1 on those grounds and I’m keen to side with one of the locals to take this.

Got Stormy and UNI look best of the American runners. There isn’t much between them, both are mares and both are currently priced around 9/2 – 5/1. Got Stormy got the better over Uni in the Grade 1 Fourstardave Handicap back in August and these mares do battle again on the highest stage.

I felt like the selection was unlucky on that occasion having not got a clear run on the straight and with a 2lbs swing at the weights Uni is fancied to reverse the form having been supplemented for $100,000 to take part in this.

She put in a scintillating performance three weeks ago to break the track record at Keeneland in a Grade 1 Fillies & Mares mile to continue her good form and she should be able launch another big assault from her less than ideal draw in 11.

1pt win Uni @5/1, 22:20 Santa Anita, Saturday (William Hill)
