1pt ew Marsh Hawk @20/1, Newbury 16:25

I’m keen to give Richard Hannon’s Marsh Hawk another go, having tipped her last week at Doncaster. She travelled really well though found little when asked at the business end, but she can claim receipt of a little bump on the way and the ground might have been quicker than ideal. It was a messy race with a surprise winner, so I’m neither here nor there with the form and fancy her to continue her progression at Newbury.

With her good record on the surface, there’s reason to believe the soft going will bring some improvement out of her. It’s not the toughest race as the smaller field makes it less complicated and she hardly looks out of her league against this lot. The favourite, Ascription, hasn’t won a race for over two years though next-in-the-betting Dark Emerald has some useful form.

It looks wide open and, with nine runners, 20/1 each-way seems generous.

UPDATE: there’s been a tonne of money for the horse this morning and we don’t advise a bet at the revised 7/1 price.
