A really strong renewal of the Group Two Dahlia Stakes at Newmarket, with Group One winners Amazing Maria and Arabian Queen making their seasonal debuts.
Neither are favourite though – that accolade goes to John Gosden’s Jazzi Top, who looks ridiculously short in the betting considering she’s not had a run this year and her best form can’t match the other two named horses’.
I’m passing all three expecting them to need the run and siding with the French raider USHERETTE, for Andre Fabre and Godolphin.
Fabre is unlikely to send her over without expectations of a big run and she arrives match fit after a winning return in March.
She must be well thought of as she was thought good enough for Group One company last season, being beaten by Amazing Maria in the Prix Rothschild Stakes.
Ultimately she fell well short that day, but if race fitness and the step up in trip to nine furlongs can bring about improvement then it could be timely to back her today.
At 7/1, I am doing so.
1pt win Usherette @7/1, 14:25 Newmarket, Sunday
