0.5pts ante-post win Bobs Worth @25/1, Hennessy Gold Cup

Nicky Henderson has been markedly positive about 2013 Cheltenham Gold Cup winner Bobs Worth’s work at home of late, expressing his regret for not running him in Cue Card’s Charley Hall Chase last week. He would have had to be very good to win that, so his words carry some weight.

He was surely too bad to be true last season, having won the Grade 1 Lexus Chase and run fairly well in the Gold Cup in the 2013/2014 season. He’s not got too many miles on the clock for a ten-year-old, so might have a few big performances left in him.

Another tilt at the Cheltenham Gold Cup is surely out of the question with such an abundance of talent in the staying chasing division nowadays. The realistic target now is Newbury’s Hennessy Gold Cup – a race he won under a big weight as a seven-year-old, off a mark of 160 – and perhaps the Grand National later in the season.

That he makes his seasonal reappearance over hurdles today suggests Henderson is keen to protect his much-reduced mark of 151 for the Hennessey. He’s tumbled down from a lofty 180 in 2013 and must have a chance now 9lbs better off than his previous success in the race.

If he can show the positive signs from home on the track today, we’ll see his current price of 25/1 slashed significantly so it’s worth a small bite of the ante-post market.

0.5pts ante-post win Bobs Worth @25/1, Hennessy Gold Cup, Newbury 28th November
