1pt ante-post win Opera Singer @14/1, Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe, 6th October

1m4f Qatar Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe (No Geldings) (Turf) (3yo+)

Not a vintage renewal as the best three-year-old, City Of Troy, is off to America, while Europe’s top two older horses are geldings and can’t run. I don’t think Look De Vega is a good favourite at all as the French Derby form underwhelms and he has to prove he stays 12f – he may well do but he’s a shocking price at 3/1. I’d go back to juvenile form to find the bet here and look no further than Boussac winner OPERA SINGER, who was devastating on quick ground at Longchamp last October and has been namechecked for this race all season. Her sire Justify is setting ridiculously high standards with his first crop and Coolmore have stuck to their plan with both her and City Of Troy since last year. It’s quite a rare thing that Coolmore work backwards from the Arc with a three-year-old, which really captures my attention. Three-year-old fillies get big weight concessions in the Arc and she’s definitely trained on having won a Group One in open company at Goodwood. The best is surely still to come and at 14/1 and bigger on the exchanges, she’s a very good bet.
