For the second year running Willie Mullins and his star chaser Douvan have let down ante-post punters by flirting with participation in the Grade 1 Tingle Creek… before pulling the plug at final declarations.
Zzz.
Sadly it’s left just Fox Norton as a truly top-class participant in this year’s renewal.
As good as he is, I’m not backing him despite his odds-on quotes perhaps looking a shade generous, as AR MAD runs for Gary Moore.
He shot to fame on this card when a brilliant winner of the two-mile Grade-1 novices’ chase two seasons ago, but he’s been plagued by injury since.
This represents the first time he’s tackled Grade 1 company with the benefit of a prep run and his talent shouldn’t be in doubt, so if he’s still the same horse he was back then – he’s only seven so why not? – then his 16/1 quotes are very generous.
He has to be backed against the remaining field who, by and large, don’t look like Grade 1 horses.
1pt win Ar Mad @16/1, 14:55 Sandown, Saturday
