1m Emirates Poule d’Essai des Poulains (Group 1) (3yo Colts) (Grande Course) (Turf) (3yo)
English Guineas winner Poetic Flare goes for dual-Classic glory in the French equivalent and there’s no point disputing his place as favourite. I’m keen to take him on as the English Guineas looked like dodgy form with all sorts of disappointments, and the French colts are largely unexposed. St Mark’s Basilica looks no better than a fair price for Aidan O’Brien – it’s hard to argue he’s any value at 11/4 on his seasonal reappearance. The one I like is SEALIWAY for the home team. He absolutely bolted up in the Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere on Arc day, albeit on specialist heavy going and without the Aidan O’Brien horses who were all withdrawn the night before. You can question the form but the performance was monstrous and there’s rain forecast throughout the weekend at Paris where Longchamp is already good-to-soft. I really liked his reappearance over 7f, also at Longchamp, where it was all hands and heels from Christophe Soumillon with a view to bigger targets. 8/1 is more than fair and I suspect he’s nailed on to finish in the first four.
1pt each-way Sealiway @8/1, 14:50 Longchamp, Sunday (1-4, 1/5)
