COGRY shaped with promise over an inadequate trip at Warwick last time out, when he finished behind the talented Taquin De Seuil, and Niceonefrankie. His performance in the Welsh Grand National the time before should be scratched, where like so many others, he never handled the conditions.

He remains quite fresh this season having only had the three starts and Nigel Twiston-Davies – who had a fantastic Cheltenham Festival – continues to persevere with him in these staying handicap chases, where he is generally priced towards the top of the market.

He has dropped 1lb below his previous mark and with this assignment looking a little easier than his previous tasks, he could  be primed to make a bold bid off a workable mark of 136.

The ground is the best he has encountered since his fourth place at Cheltenham in November and should suit, evidenced by his best three performances to date which have come with ‘Good’ somewhere in the going condition. The going is described as sft (gd-sft in places) here. Ryan Hatch is also in-form and will claim 3lbs to help ease the burden of getting him round this marathon trip.

Shotgun Paddy, Firebird Flyer, and Sizing Coal all have a strong shout in this, so an each-way stab at the 8/1 available seems the right approach.
