Order Of St George is the only real superstar in the stayers division and his absence bodes very well for the horse that chased him home in the Irish St Leger, Agent Murphy.
Consensus is he’s most at home on good to soft ground – check – and he should improve for the step up in trip to two miles – check. He never really travelled in the Leger and if he performs like he did at Newbury when slamming Pallasator, he’s got to be good value to go close at 5/1.
Who else is going to beat him? Forgotten Rules, last year’s winner, hasn’t fired this season and can’t claim many excuses. Clever Cookie is overrated and the rest of the dual-code runners are fully exposed as good-but-not-that-good horses.
John Gosden’s Flying Officer, perhaps, but it’s far easier to side with the proven Group One form of the selection.
1pt win Agent Murphy @6/1, Ascot 12:45
