A good betting race. I like the German raider, Calif, on form but the Group One penalty is killer. Anmaat won this two seasons ago and has barely put a hoof wrong since, with his only defeat when conceding weight to a Derby winner. His most recent start puts him bang there with My Prospero on collateral form but did reflect a regression in form, and he might bounce after over a year off. Jayarebe has the best recent form but they sidestepped softer ground in the Eclipse Stakes and that’s a red flag. ALMAQAM looks the bet to me. He was held up behind Economics and Jayarebe at Deauville, and ran on for third, which made it two starts in a row he’d disappointed on fast going. However, he won really well earlier this year on soft at Sandown and Ryan Moore has been booked. This is only his sixth career start and I suspect we’ll see a lifetime best here.
