Five two-year-olds go to post for this seven-furlong Listed contest at Newbury and the once-raced maiden winner Escobar trades 6/4 favourite for Hugo Palmer and Frankie Dettori.
That’s a very short price for a horse who’s achieved very little, so we’ll take him on with Ralph Beckett’s filly AMABILIS.
At 9/2 she looks the value with warm vibes coming from the stable about her chances.
With ground apparently perfect for her, her trainer has only sounded caution over the seven-furlong trip being potentially too sharp, but that’s not enough to put me off.
She looked really good at Goodwood, travelling beautifully into the race and last off the bridle, but was somewhat mugged at the line by a well-backed Aidan O’Brien colt who was perhaps given a better ride on the day by Ryan Moore and is destined for bigger things.
Amabilis will be improving with each start and has the excellent Pat Smullen on board so should be given every chance to get her nose in front.
1pt win Amabilis @9/2, 14:30 Newbury, Saturday
