1pt win Balty Boys @3/1, Superior Mile, Haydock 14:00

Richard Hannon has declared Ivawood a non-runner for the 14:00 at Haydock, presumably due to ground concerns. Also removed is Godolphin’s unexposed Let’s Go, who was feared as the most likely improver, leaving only seven in a weak-looking field for this Group Three.

It leaves Balty Boys, a horse we’re really keen on, alone at the top of the market. At 3/1, value is slim so we’re not running to the bookies, but with 0.4pts already advised as a cover bet to our now-void Ivawood selection, we want to top it up to the full point.

To recap on our thinking, we’re banking on Brian Ellison’s charge to improve on his second last year to the re-opposing Captain Cat, based on a consistent season and particularly a fantastic performance over seven furlongs off top-weight in a recent Ascot handicap. A mile looks perfect and the soft ground will play to his strengths, so he’ll take all the beating.

1pt win Balty Boys @3/1, Superior Mile, Haydock 14:00 (inclusive of 0.4pts already advised @5/1, subject to Rule Four reductions)
