1m Emirates Poule d’Essai des Poulains (Group 1) (3yo Colts) (Grande Course) (Turf) (3yo)
A super competitive renewal that’s attracted a big field. Henry Longfellow trades a short favourite for Aidan O’Brien but his form doesn’t add up to too much as he’s mostly beaten the same horses and a few non stayers at 7f up the Curragh. BEAUVATIER has the best form on account of his 3rd to Rosallion and subsequent Breeders Cup winner Unquestionable on Arc day, which was the last run of an otherwise unbeaten 2yo season. He’s had a prep race this year which has been counting for a lot after such a wet winter and spring, with many horses needing their reappearances. 8/1 compensates for any doubts over how he’s trained on or his wider draw. Secondly Jean-Claude Rouget is the man to follow in France and his stable jockey has selected 20/1 outsider KERAN who also has wide draw. He’s more of a sprint pedigree by Blue Point out of a 5f mare, but the sire has been going great guns and this horse looks like he wants the mile. Last time out he was beaten in his prep when slowly away but he ran a long way clear of the third, Devil’s Point, in a Group One at Doncaster last season. That’s strong form and RPRs actually have him second only to Henry Longfellow ahead of this.
1pt win Beauvatier @8/1, 1pt win Keran @20/1, 15:30 Longchamp, Sunday
