3m Trustatrader Hampton Novices’ Chase (Grade 2) (GBB Race) (Class 1) (5yo+)
A slightly odd market because I can’t have the favourite Grey Dawning as he has stamina to prove and jumped poorly last time. Apple Away has a sexy profile with a Grade 1 novice win but her Leicester win was a nothing race and she has plenty to prove as a chaser in this deep, particularly as she couldn’t jump with Grey Dawning at Haydock. She would be the selection if she were 3x the price but she isn’t. The clear form horse is BROADWAY BOY and my sensible side is telling me he should be favourite after winning a handicap off 146 last time. He’s simply run to a higher level over fences than all of these, and his prominent style of racing really suits Warwick where it’s difficult to come from off the pace. Even with the penalty he carries I suspect he’ll be very hard to pass. The Changing Man has a good chance if he stays the trip.
