Aidan O’Brien is in ridiculous form this season and has won virtually every single Derby trial so far, but I’ve serious doubts his Anthony Van Dyck is a good thing at close enough to even money for Lingfield’s Listed trial on Saturday.
Make no mistake, he’s favourite for good reason but this is his seasonal reappearance and he has to step up to this 12f trip on soft ground, so he’s very vulnerable.
I really liked CAP FRANCAIS ahead of his trial at Epsom, and he ran really well when finishing best of all to take a never-nearer second to Cape Of Good Hope.
That race didn’t really go to plan but he certainly looked like this step up in trip will suit, and he had the juvenile form to prove that was no fluke either so 4/1 seems well worth a bet.
The other one to keep an eye on is easy Salisbury winner Eagle By Day, but as good as he looked last time out he does have a mountain to climb on official ratings.
