There’s a meet at Sandown this evening and CYMRIC looks overpriced at 9/1.
He was an excellent second on quick ground in Group One company on Arc day at Longchamp last season, when totally overlooked by the market at 25/1.
We’ve not seen the winner of that race, Ultra, since, but a length back in third was subsequent 2000 Guineas winner Galileo Gold and the horse that came second, Massaat, Cymric beat by a head in his maiden last season, so there’s a strong look to the form.
He wasn’t so impressive next time out at the Breeders’ Cup at Keenland, but that was a meet punctuated by unexpected results due to the dodgy ground.
He’s the highest rated horse in this Listed race and is only the price he is because he came last of eight on his seasonal return at Newmarket.
Newmarket is a track where course form is important and Cymric may not have liked the course’s famous dip or the big step up in trip, so, also considering that was his seasonal reappearance, we can put a line through the run.
He definitely didn’t stay on the day so, dropping back to a mile, he should be much more competitive at a course he’s won at before.
Sandown is another track that throws up repeat winners so it’s a big plus.
He only has four rivals in this and none ahead of him in the market have achieved more than a maiden success, so he could well be a steal at 9/1 and looks well worth a punt.
1pt win Cymric @9/1, 19:10 Sandown, Thursday
