1m4f (1m3f211y) Ribblesdale Stakes (Group 2) (Fillies) (Class 1) (3yo)
A Group One filly often comes from this race but to find one you have to be forgiving, or get behind the hype surrounding Diamond Rain. I was never totally convinced by Shamardal’s progeny at 12f in his pomp and don’t want to go near her at the prices now up 2f, for all that you have to respect she has a big chance. The one I’ve landed on who is well worth another go is DANIELLE for the Gosdens. The Cracksman filly was a bit disappointing in her Oaks trial but it was a strange old race. She clocked the single fastest furlong of all the runners at 4f out when trying to reel in You Got To Me, and by the time she had closed the gap her race was run and her stride began to shorten. In English that means she was ridden very inefficiently, whereas the eyecatcher of the race Rubies Are Red was delivered with a more patient ride to nab second and I expect those places to be reversed. She has the longest stride of the market principles and this more conventional track should suit her much better than Lingfield.
