2m Thorntons Recycling Maiden Hurdle
The Thorntons Recycling Maiden Hurdle has seen some impressive winners in recent years with the likes of City Island, Supasundae and Double Irish all tasting success before going to claim big victories in their careers.
This year’s renewal looks equally competitive with several major players. Willie Mullins enters Mt. Leinster and CONCERTISTA with the mare preferred to take this from the geldings with the benefit of a 7lbs allowance. Concertista remains a novice hurdler having just been touched off on her debut run for the champion trainer in the Mares Novice hurdle when she went off at 50/1 odds.
Her seasonal reappearance on heavy ground over 2m 4f must have really stretched the limits of her stamina as she massively underperformed at odds of 1/2 and didn’t look anywhere near the force that contested at Cheltenham in March.
But it’s definitely too soon to write her off just yet and she should have come on plenty for that run. The drop back to two miles on a flatter track with better ground should suit her and I fancy her to take this from the classy Entoucas, who has done nothing wrong in defeat during his career, but has tended to find one too good on each start under rules.
1pt win Concertista @4/1, 12:40 Leopardstown, Thursday
