Godolphin’s strong crop of two-year-olds might get better today with First Victory taken to land this fillies’ Group Three and improve on her impressive first victory over course and distance a fortnight ago.
Raced just once, she had Sir Michael Stoute’s Aristocratic back in third on her maiden with a similar winning margin achieved by another of Saeed bin Suroor’s rising stars, Promising Run, against the same filly over the same course and distance in August.
Perhaps they’re closely matched, and, if she’s anything like her stablemate, she’ll be plenty good enough for this. The course form counts for a lot at Newmarket and I’m keen to be on-side at 5/1.
Queen’s Trust, the favourite, has only run once and that was on polytrack. So many times we see the form of that surface flop on turf so she looks dreadful value at 11/4.
12/1 chance Alamode appeals the most of the remainder having won a hot maiden at Goodwood (Promising Run 3rd). Plenty have won since and she may be overpriced.
1pt win First Victory @5/1, Newmarket 14:05
