Every year this race is touted as a top class renewal and every year we look back on the previous year and doubt the level of the form. I think that’s nonsense and there’s no reason to doubt FRODON this time round just because the Gold Cup winner is in the mix. Frodon will make the running, stay every yard of the trip and won’t be losing any ground over his fences so the only way he’s going to be beaten is by pace. That rules out Clan Des Obeaux and Minella Indo for me so the younger legs of Asterion Forlonge and Chantry House, both effective over shorter trips, rate the main dangers.
